What you should know before entering examination hall to write external Exmas - Expomata

"You cannot travel with successful men and remain a failure”.

INTRODUCTION
A brilliant student who does not know the pattern will
come out a failure...
EVERY SUCCESS HAS A SECRET AND YOU ARE ONE
STEP AWAY FROM YOUR DESIRED SCORE. GET IT AS
YOU GO THROUGH "THE SECRET"
Age is a factor that does not obey the law of gravity; it
goes up never to come down. Many students get
surprised at the wake of a new dawn only to realize that
they have spent about five years of their LIVES at home
seeking admission as a result of failure in WASSCE, JAMB
UTME AND POST UTME.
And in our contemporary society where education has no
substitute, the number of students seeking admission into
the higher institution every year gets numberless. And out
of the millions who enter for this yearly exercise, only a
few who know THE SECRET get what they want.
Dear, I may not know you in person, but the fact that
you've got this book is evidence enough that you belong
to the CLASS OF TOP SCORERS.
These secrets have been outlined waiting to open the
doors of opportunity you have been seeking.
WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF TOP SCORERS.
CHAPTER ONE
Revising for JAMB exams is more than just reading
through the notes you made in class. It also involves the
knowing of how the questions come and the right
approach to answering them. Practicing with JAMB past
Questions and Answers can improve your chances of
doing well.
Revision works best when you practice what you will be
doing in the exam. And by writing what you know as the
answer makes it easier to be remembered when the real
exam comes.
The past questions indicate trends of how JAMB can
surprise students and make those who know the pattern
happy. You come to a state of self-preparedness when
you attempt a minimum of 10 past questions in each
subject before sitting for it. Top scorers know that
questions are often repeated from the same topic every
year, with only a change in sentence, figure or option.
While you study the past question, you will get to know
the following:
1.    The topic in high demand: there are some topics that
JAMB ANDWAEC love so dearly that the questions will not
be complete without them. Then such topics, you give
them concrete attention so as not to miss that opportunity
of additional scores.
2.    You become familiar with the pattern: JAMB has its
own pattern ofsetting exam question. If you don't know it,
you will see a question on a topic you have read very well
yet you won't get the answer. Thus, with the past
question, you can know the trend and what the examiner
really want from you.
3.    You know what to expect: if you study the past
questions very well youwill get to know what to expect
from JAMB in any topic and this will build yourself
confidence. People are afraid of the future because they
don't know what it holds. If they had known, they will
confidently face their destiny.
Now that you know what to expect, you then arm yourself
with everything it would take to meet it.
4.    You get yourself under examination condition: which
implies that theexam day is just like the second time of
writing the exam.
CAUTION: You don't study with your past question only, let
yourtext book on the subject stay close to you with other
subjects being far away as possible. When you have
finished marking and scoring, your text book can help you
get details of the correction for the ones you failed as
well as the ones you got by guess work. While you are
searching the text book for the answers, it will help you
cover other areas while pursuing the main context. This
will crystallize your preparation well and give it a shape
and confidence in your mind. And you know what! In
JAMB, real and deep confidence matters a lot.
HOW TO MAXIMIZE THIS SECRET:
If you miss this point, you will be like any other person
who has Past Question without knowing how to use it to
boost their scores.
• Select a topic you want to revise on, for example in
Mathematics you picked "Indices". Go to your text book,
class note and or tutorial jotter. Study this topic again.
• Open your Past Question and pick out all the questions
that has to do
with Indices e.g. 2000 - 2011
Check this set of questions in your Mathematics pamphlet.

Note: it is the same with all other subjects including art
subjects,
All you need to do is to get your Past questions and pick
out the questions that fall on a particulars topic in that
subject.
You will observe that the questions don't change. They ask
the same questions but in a different way. Sometimes,
they repeat the questions word
for word.
By the time you have answered 20 JAMB questions on
indices, you will be ready for it in any way it will be
presented on exam day. Please, if you don't have past
questions on your four subjects yet, get one today. The
secret of any examination is hidden in its past questions.
You can't afford to go for JAMB UTME or WASSCE without
practicing with the past question. This was my secret of
passing Junior School Certificate Examination (JSCE),
West African Senior School Certificate Examination
(WASSCE) and JAMB UTME.
CHAPTER TWO
"If you want to be a top scorer, hang around top scorers"
One of the major things that determine what you become
in life is the company you keep. Your friends matter a lot.
Many a students have the zeal for academic excellence
but the company they keep is heading in the opposite
direction of their desire and goal.
Top scorers have got this right, that if they must beat the
record, they must associate themselves with people who
are willing to beat the records as well. If really you have
read this book to this point, then I want you to stop and
think of all your friends that are not adding value to your
academic life. QUIT THEM, after all, everybody must not
be your friend. Anyone that is not going in the same
direction with you should not stay in your life because they
will only serve as obstacle to the achievement of your
goal. It is a pity that many students who have the zeal for
excellence after registering in a tutorial center go in there
and forget what their original purpose is. Don't let your
case be the same. People may criticize a center but that
doesn't stop you from making a difference. Remember,
"No matter how bad the people in a place may be, there
will still be good people. Seek them out".
The bible says "IRON SHARPENETH IRON, SO DOES ONE
MAN SHARPEN ANOTHER". The popular saying never gets
outdated "Show me your friend and I will tell who you
are". In other words, if they are top scorers, your case will
not be different. Moreover, birds of a feather flock
together.
The truth is plain and cannot be covered, we become like
those we associate with. No one comes into your life and
leaves you the way he or she met you. We all are bundle
of influences; anyone who is not increasing you is
decreasing you. Therefore, make the right choice of
friends. Surround yourself with people who are going to
lift you higher. You gain nothing by being with people who
are just the way you are; you will only encourage one
another in mediocrity. But let your association be with
those who are more excellent than you, your scores will
have no choice than to move from poor to excellent.
The destiny and academic dream of many students have
been ruined by bad association. Beware of who it is that
hangs around you because they influence
your thought, your words, actions, your reading potential
and your scores in exams. My dear, it has been 'if you
cannot beat them, join them'. That is the worst advice you
can ever receive from anyone. "IF YOU CANNOT BEAT
THEM, NEVER THINK OF JOINING THEM". It is better to
be alone than in a wrong company. Can you just think of
those who top your class in class work, test, exams, and
oral answers during classes? Check out their friends and
decide where you are going to belong.
Here is one of the major secrets in academic association;
you keep company with those who have the same
academic vision and dream with you. You don't have a
dream of studying electrical electronic engineering while
your reading partners are students that want to study Civil
Law or Accountancy. You will be stuck with your physics
problems without any form of help from them no matter
how brilliant they might be. This is because; they have
little or no knowledge on that subject area. So, let your
reading partners be those who are good in the subject
areas you are going to sit for in these exams.
Remember, you cannot travel with successful men and
remain a failure.
Finally, on this secret, let these words below keep ringing
in your heart. "You must constantly ask yourself: Who are I
around? What are they doing to me? What have they got
me reading? What have they got me watching? What have
they got me saying? Where do they have me going and
what do they have me thinking? Then ask yourself the big
question: Is that Okay? Your life does not get better by
chance, it gets better by change. Note: your best friends
are those who bring out the best in you.
CHAPTER THREE
Shoot for the moon, even if you don't get there, you will
land among the stars.
The secret of definite score is the missing ingredient that
has made your scores fall below that of the top scorers.
These top scorers tap into this secret and you know what?
You help them achieve their objective in this exercise.
Imagine this, Emeka walks into the class and tells you that
he is going to make a total aggregate score of 350 in
JAMB UTME, what will be your reaction? Okay, without
telling me, you will simply shout at him and say 'it cannot
be done'. Your reaction and statement will only serve as a
catalyst and stimulant that will make Emeka double his
time of reading, and focus in order to prove you wrong.
Then if at the release of JAMB UTME results and he
makes 310, you will be shocked and you will help him
spread the news because he told you beforehand that he
would make a high score.
Dear, if you must join this league of extraordinary
students, then it is paramount that you get to the point of
assigning definite scores to your four different subjects if
you are writing JAMB UTME. You should as well do the
same for your 9 chosen subjects if you are preparing for
WASSCE. This was the secret that pulled off C's from my
WAEC result and gave me A's and B's. Before the exams,
some of my classmates would come to ask me what my
result will look like. I told them I will get a result with 9
A's. I heard one of them exclaim, "Even Further
mathematics!!! Some of them said in pidgin English, "O
boy, you too greedy oh! My reply was a bit simple. "Let me
be greedy as long as it is for good and no one is harmed".
I didn't make a 'C' in WASSCE and you know what, I made
A1 in Further Mathematics because I was challenged by a
classmate. If you will assign definite score to each subject
you are going to sit in this exam, the result you will get
will dazzle you.
One day while I was teaching Mathematics in a Tutorial
center, I decided to share this secret with my students.
So, I asked Princewill to stand up and tell the class the
score of his dream in the 2011 JAMB UTME. He said he
would be very happy with a score of 240. When I asked
others, majority of them said they will be okay and
comfortable with a score of 240. Then we decided to
assign definite scores to Princewill's individual subject
and here is the analysis of what he gave me.
Use of English 80
Mathematics    75
Chemistry 80
Physics    74
-----------------------
Total    309
----------------------
Princewill never knew his real desires because he was
hiding under the umbrella of 250 as a high score. On the
release of result, Princewill made a total aggregate score
of 270. And his score in JAMB gave him an edge over
others when it was time for his Post UTME. He was given
admission without a struggle.
The reason many students pass JAMB UTME but are later
denied of admission is because they just manage to scale
the cut off mark of their school of choice. Such that when
they write Post UTME, their average score fall below the
cut off for their course. Top scorers start getting
admission from the day they sat WASSCE. While they are
preparing for JAMB, they have the mind of getting a score
that will give them an edge over others during the Post
UTME. For instance, Kenneth and Babatunde made
Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) their
school of choice and as the case may be, they two have
also decided to go for Information Management
Technology (I.M.T). If their result is as follows, who do
you think will get the admission if the department cut off
mark is 240
JAMB PUME    Average
Kenneth 220 230 225
Babatunde 280 225    252.5
The answer is not a gossip; it is obvious that Babatunde
will be admitted while Kenneth would not.
Therefore set your target high. The truth of the matter is
that you will not get 250 if that is your aim, your score will
land around 200 or below. But when you set your target at
350 or 360, you are probably going to make a score of 280
and above if you work toward it. This is the secret you've
been missing.
Remember, High expectations yield high results. You can
also substitute high with "LOW" in the above sentence and
read again. There is nothing called impossible, take action
and God will take over. Don't let anyone intimidate you
because you desire a high score. If they are not
comfortable with the score you just mentioned, they can
mind their own scores. Never let what they will say make
you reduce your standard let it challenge you to prove
them wrong.
A Chinese proverb says "The man who says it cannot be
done shouldnot interrupt the man who is doing it". The
advice has always been,"Don't bite more than you can
chew". But in this year's exam, I have a different opinion
for you, "BITE MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW SO
GOD WILL HELP YOU CHEW IT".
It's high time you broke the record of this exam beyond
repair.
CHAPTER FOUR
"As a man thinketh in his heart so is he"
The most powerful instrument science ever discovered is
the human mind. Great thoughts are product of great
minds. You are what you think always and you cannot rise
above your thoughts. The thoughts of today are the
realities of tomorrow. Top scorers have this trait in
common: they are positive thinkers and they dwell on
thoughts of success. Your thoughts influence your words
and your words create your reality. Note these three points
 Your words are the voice of your heart.
 Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth
speaketh
 As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.
Beware of what you think about your exam because they
become your words and your words will eventually create
your reality.
Going into the examination period with a belief that you
will succeed is a powerful examination strategy. You can
become a positive thinker if you have not attempted it
before. Change your thought about JAMB Exam being hard
or difficult. Again, stop thinking of those who have written
and failed rather let your mind fetch the possibilities that
you can make it. The major difference between people is
in the way they think. Read this short story:
A shoe company wanted to expand its sale into Africa. It
sent one salesman to East Africa and second to West
Africa. The first man reported back, "Forget doing
business here, no one wears shoes here". The second
man reported "This is a great place to do business without
competition, no one wears shoes here". In the place where
the first man saw difficulty, the second saw opportunity. If
others say it cannot be done, take up the challenge and
be the first to do it. After all, IMPOSSIBLE IS NOT A FACT.
Even the word itself says I'M POSSIBLE. Have this mind in
you as you prepare
for your exams. The reason you must be positive about
this exam is because your responds to JAMB UTME or
WAEC will be according to what you already think and
believe about yourself and your capacity. If you study with
your last blood without a belief that you will make it, you
will run the risk of failing because your belief system
controls the activities you do and their outcome. Your
belief will affect the effort you put in for preparation. If
you believe that you have what it takes to pass with a high
score, it will prompt you to do your best so you can
achieve your dreams. Don't let your belief system
contradict your desires and goal.
Reflect on these:
• Nurture your mind with great thoughts, to believe in the
heroic makes heroes.
• If you are asked whether you can pass JAMB UTME or
WASSCE, tell them 'certainly I can'. Then get busy and find
out how you can.
• A man is what he thinks all day long. There are no
limitations to the mind except the ones we acknowledge.
You are not everybody, it doesn't matter how many people
who say it cannot be done or the number that have tried
and failed, your determination to succeed will make a
difference.
Finally, success is a state of the mind, if you want success
start thinking of yourself as a success.
You are not what you eat, you are what you think.
TO MAINTAIN POSITIVE THINKING ON YOUR DESIRED
GOAL:
Write your desired score very bold and place it on
strategic positions in your house. Such that each time you
see it, you will get up and do something about your target.
Make the writing very colourful and bold. You can paste it
in the following points.
• The wall of your reading table.
• Mirror top corner either on the left or right.
• On your notebooks and
• Your class desk and any other place that is eye
catching.
Any time you are idle and you see it, it will remind you to
focus and read so as to achieve the target score. It's a
visualizing process. This was the secret that helped me
focus on my goal until the day I wrote JAMB UTME and it
is still doing it for me.
CHAPTER FIVE
"My great concern is not whether you have failed but
whether you are content with your failure" ~~~Abraham
Lincoln.
Many people write JAMB UTME over and over without
success. And for this reason, they give up and drop out of
school. People, who make it in JAMB and WAEC, know
how to handle their past failures. They don't give up when
they fail; they keep trying until they get it right. Don't give
up now, just do your best and with the principles outlined
in this book, success is inevitable as you apply them in
this year’s exam.
Top scorers are just like every other student; the only
difference is that they have conditioned their mind never
to quit in any venture. When they make mistake and get
knocked down, they quickly get up, get better and get
going firmly believing that success is just around the
corner.
Remember, you are not a failure until you quit trying. That
you failed last year does not mean you are going to fail
this time. You are going to make it with these principles in
play. Many failures are those who gave up earlier.
Most people give up just when they are about to achieve
success, they quit on the one yard line. They give up at the
last minute of the game, just one foot from a winning
touchdown.
My dear, if you are going to GIVE UP, remember the
reason why you have HELD UP for so long. If you persist
long enough, you will win. Instead of giving excuses to
support why you will give up, give yourself reasons why
you must make it to the end. Read this story:
Oge and Chioma were very good friends. The two
graduated from the same secondary school in the same
year and applied to write a university entrance
examination, two of them failed with scores like identical
twins 168 and 170. The cut off mark for their school of
choice was 180. They patiently waited for the next year
and applied again. Their results were worse than the
former. Chioma got angry and said, if she writes the third
time and it doesn't work, she would do
something bizarre. For three good years, this exam
jammed them so hard. A day after the release of the
results, Chioma checked it online and what she saw left
her in a bitter and sorrow mood. She cried and wept and
took a rash decision. Her pains were not only that she
failed the exams but her classmates were now in 300 level
while she struggles to secure admission. By evening,
Chioma's mum came back from the market only to see
the girl she had been toiling to see through education
soaked in five liters of petrol (fuel) that she bought ready
to burn herself to ashes. The mum pleaded with her to
drop the match box and the match-stick but she wouldn't
listen. She lit the match-stick and roasted herself to death
screaming "I cannot take this anymore". The mother
suffered a great shock that led to her death within a week.
Oge who traveled to stay with an uncle never knew that
the results had been released so she checked hers three
weeks later. The joy from within could be seen clearly as
she drew people's attention with a shout of "We made it!
In the cyber cafe. Oge returned only to have her joy turned
into sorrow as every gathering of two or three discussed
the death of Chioma and the mother. She couldn't stop
crying. For days, she kept crying and wouldn't eat
anything. It was later discovered that she was not just
crying because of the death of Chioma and the mum, but
because the scores of all science students were upgraded
two weeks after the release of the result and the
upgrading of the scores had helped them gain admission
into the University of their choice. But Chioma was
nowhere to be found. She gave up at the edge her
breakthrough.
Her death did not stop the examination from going on the
next year. Till today, the exam is still going on annually.
The big news is that Oge later got a scholarship to study
abroad and she made a first class on graduation.
Dear Champion, don't quit trying, don't be discouraged, it
is often the last key in the bunch that opens the lock.
There are many who have thrown up their hands when a
little more effort, a little more patient would have
achieved success. Stay with it a bit longer, the result you
are looking for might just be a step ahead of you. My
dear, please don't lose focus of the future while trying to
peep into the past.
God's grace will make your effort yield great success this
time. If you have not registered, please do and if have
registered without hope of making it, please change your
belief. You will make it this time.
To guarantee success, do what the Japanese proverb says
"FALL SEVEN TIMES, STAND UP EIGHT".
CHAPTER SIX
"Always plan ahead, it was not raining when Noah built the
ark".
The achievement of any great dream or goal is always
preceded by a great plan. He, who fails to plan, plans to
fail. Deep and adequate preparation is inevitable if high
score is a target.
Many exam candidates register in a JAMB and WAEC
preparatory center with the purpose of getting themselves
prepared for the exam. But I get surprise when I see them
carry a small pocket notebook to class. In that small note,
they will write all the class notes on all the different
subjects. If I may ask, how can you revise with a note that
has been written in patches? It will slow down your
assimilation.
Many other students fail to take down note when the class
is going on but watch out for a week to the examination,
they will start acting as if they are very serious.
FOR MAXIMUM PREPARATION FOR THIS EXAMINATION:
* You must develop a time table and discipline yourself
to follow it strictly. Give more time to the more difficult
subjects.
* Get all the materials that will aid your understanding of
the subject:
Such materials may include good text books, syllable
issued on registration, it will help you know the essential
points to look for while reading. Other materials include
JAMB calculator or its equivalent and Past Questions
where you can pick out the questions that relates to the
topics you have read from the text books, answering the
questions on a particular topic will help you know how
prepared you are for that topic.
* Start tutorials as early as possible:
If you are still in secondary school, start using Past
Questions as early as possible. It will help you understand
the nature and pattern of the exam and right approach.
* For you to get something, you have to let go some
other things. Pleasereduce the rate at which you watch
television to the barest minimum.
* Separate yourself:
Since you have an exam facing you, you must not be
everywhere, excess visiting of friends should cease. This
is an exam you write once and for all, why don't you give
away pleasure and make it once!
If you want to be outstanding, you must stand out. Top
scorers don't do what every other person is doing, they
separate themselves. Many candidates spend close to 12
hours chatting on social network. The surprising thing is
that they do it when the lesson is going in the class.
* Focus will do you a lot of good: Many students decide
to read in front ofthe television, some others read with ear
phones. Many others keep their phone very close so that it
beeps when a friend sends a chat message from a chat
line in one social network or the other. WHO ARE YOU
DECEIVING? That is a deceptive way of preparing for an
examination. If you don't do your preparation well, you run
the risk of failing because JAMB or WAEC won't come to
ask where your class teacher stopped or the topics that
he/she did not cover. The standard has been set and you
are the one to meet the standard with adequate
preparation.
Again, you have to be active, generate examples, create
mnemonics, make summary notes, identify key words,
highlight textbooks or add margin notes. Practice with
Past Question and time yourself. Remember, no matter
how well you understand something, without practice,
forgetting will occur. Improve your memory by being
creative and interested. Try to recall information without
looking into your textbooks.
I want you to take a strong decision to apply these
principles in early preparation; it is what has kept top
scorers above their contemporaries. It is without a doubt
that confidence and courage come through preparation
and practice and your today's preparation will determine
your tomorrow's achievement. My dear, the future belongs
to those who prepare for it today.
It is true that we all were born to win, but to be a winner,
you must plan to win, prepare to win and expect to win.
Here is a proverb of truth:
"If you must sit under a shade at old age, plant a tree
now""The roof should be repaired while the sun shines"
Don't let this exam come as a sudden event to you.
REMEMBER, TOP SCORERS HAVE ALREADY MADE THEIR
SCORES ON THEIR READING TABLES; THEY ONLY COME
TO THE
EXAMINATION HALL TO PROVE IT ON THE ANSWER
SHEET.
CHAPTER SEVEN
GO THE EXTRA MILE
"One step ahead of others makes you outstanding
"~~~Prince Elijah Onwuka
This is the major secret of all great achievers. They do
those things which ordinary people don't want to do. Note
I didn't say cannot do. Top scorers are willing to go the
extra mile. When everyone leaves the class for break and
fun, they stay back and do a little extra learning.
Obviously, a little extra effort will also yield a little extra
result. The common denomination of success which is the
secret of success of every person who has ever been
successful lies in the fact that "they formed the habit of
doing things that failures don't like to do". If you must take
the lead, then you must be willing to take extra steps
beyond the stopping point of your mates. The difference
between ORDINARY and extraORDINARY is the little
"extra". Are you willing to take that extra step?
I have come to understand that the reason we admire
greatness is because consciously or unconsciously, we
recognize that it is achieved by ordinary people who gave
a little extra. Top scorers know that somebody out there is
giving in 100% effort, thus they put in 110%.
Four short words sum up what has lifted most students
above the crowd: "A LITTLE BIT MORE".
They did all that was expected of them and a little bit
more.
If you just stop at doing what every other person did, you
will end up like every other person. A little extra effort can
unleash the ocean of opportunities you've been looking
for. It is high time you started burning the midnight oil.
Don't sleep away the night. Excessive sleep is a killer of
destiny. It makes you wake up to face your examinations
unprepared.
9 Little Things That Top Scorers Do:
* They are awake at night to see that they are ahead of
their counterparts.
* They are good listeners and readily take down notes
on key points as the teacher delivers the lesson.
* They don't stop where others stopped; they do extra
reading during break hours.
* Top scorers don't mingle with everybody because they
know that everybody cannot be going in the same
direction.
* They don't spend money on things that will not be of
benefit to their academic dream. They invest in text
books, past questions, private lessons, motivational books
etc.
* They are not home movie addicts, while others are
watching home movies, they are found in their reading
chambers doing the absorption of knowledge.
* The don't waste their time chatting on social network
* They are not mid night call freaks.
* They don't give much attention to relationship with the
opposite sex, thus they have less distraction.
You will agree with me that the above mention qualities
can be possessed by any person who wants to have them.
But most students don't understand it that way. Rather,
they shun what should be their priority and chase after
things which are not vital to their success. I might not be a
prophet, but if I can get the list of your daily habit and
activities, I can accurately determine your success without
any other information.
You cannot convince me that a student who spends four
consecutive hours chatting on a social network daily will
emerge as a top scorer. The worst thing here is that this
same student cannot face his/her book for 45 minutes. If
he/she does, uninvited sleep will come. How can such a
person emerge with good grades? Such chances are very
slim. If I have just described you, please turn around and
make a change.
“Remember, the height that successful men attained and
kept was not as a result of sudden flight, but they while
others slept, were busy toiling upwards at night”.
Science of success shows that success is not a result of
spontaneous combustion; you must consciously set
yourself on fire. My dear, you can join this league of
record breakers.
NOTE MY OBSERVATION: I never met extraordinary
students; they are only ordinary students who did
something extraordinary.
GO BEYOND THE BOUNDARIES.
CHAPTER EIGHT
PROCRASTINATION
"Faith without work is dead” says the Holy Book.
The major reason this principles may not work for you will
be if and only if you don't take action. Goals are nothing
without action. It is good for us to have dreams but we
must know when to wake up and turn those dreams into
reality. Sometimes what keeps us from our miracle is our
inability to make moves. Action orientation is the biggest
secret of top scorers. Anytime they learn a new way of
doing a thing, they apply it and people around wonder how
it happened. It happened because someone did something
differently.
Words without action are the major assassins of dreams.
Getting these ideas should be like sitting on a pin, it
should make you jump up and do something. The success
of this book is not when the reader says "what a great
secret but it will be successful when he or she applies the
secret". The holy bible enjoins us to take action for the
achievement of our dreams when it said faith without
work is dead. Do you wonder why many students avoid
discovering the secrets of academic success because
deep down, they suspect the secret may be hard work.
Nothing kills a dream like procrastination. It is the grave in
which premature dreams are buried. The reason many of
your dreams did not come true can be traced back to the
day you procrastinated. Procrastination exhibits
catenation just as carbon atoms in organic chemistry. The
one of today connects that of tomorrow and the day after
tomorrow until your passion and desire for your dreams of
high score is quenched. Don't let it happen this time. Take
an unwavering decision to apply all the principles
mentioned in this book and your scores will move from
laughable to an amazing turn around.
If you have read this book to this point, it is time you
acted on whatever principle you have read from this book.
Remember, great books don't make great men, great
decisions do.
Do not wait for a perfect time because perfect times
never come. Procrastination and excuses are the nails
used to build a house of failure, and 99% of failures are
those who have the habit of pushing till tomorrow what
they can do now. Come on, take action God will take over.
Just do your best and God will do the rest. Make time to
pray and time to study. You cannot substitute hard work
with prayer, yes I believe in miracles but God will help you
to remember only what you have read. Thus, if you have
read nothing, then there is nothing to remember. Great
scores are the results of great secrets followed by great
action. Nothing moves until you move.
High scores dance with those who are already on the
dance floor.
This might be the opportunity you have been looking for.
Make sure you act on these principles. Remember the
children of Israel, manner fell down from heaven but it did
not fell into their mouth. Furthermore, God gives every bird
a worm but He does not throw it into their nest. As you
work on these principles, your desired result is
guaranteed.
Here is a word for you:
“Never leave till tomorrow that which you can do today.
God will see you through”.
CHAPTER NINE
"Focus is a process of converging your scattered attention
to a single task and purpose".
Anyone who must join this league of top scorers must
learn to be focused. Focus is one of the biggest secret of
any success. Any student who focuses on a subject, gains
enormous mastery on that subject. It is the nature of
humans to do many things at a time, but students who
have always made it to the top in any examination have
this particular trait in common: they do one thing at a
time. You need to pick one thing and become a giant in it.
Determine what you want and work like mad to achieve it.
In life as in football, you won't go far unless you know
where the goal posts are. Dare to focus on your dreams
and give less attention to others. If you must be a part of
this club of top scorers, you must channel your energy to
your preparation for this examination. Let go off social
network chats, football gist, home movie analysis, video
games. I assure you that the genius in you will emerge
and propel you to victory. Give a laser - focus to your
studies, don't let anything divert your attention.
If you can apply the following, you will gain focus:
* Avoid excess Social Network chat: 2go, facebook
BBM etc
* watching of home movies: Many students know the
most current films in the market with the names of the
actors and actresses. But little definition breaks their
head. The case is worse with the introduction of season
films that can consume about 48 hours of your time.
* Many students spend over 4 hours playing video
games: soccer games on play stations, phones etc., this
steals your hours of preparation and leave your scores at
danger zone.
* Many students who have examination in a few weeks
or months will deny themselves of meal in the name of
watching football leagues. Sometimes, they report home
at very late hours of the night leaving their books to suffer
the loss. Many boys don't watch this football and end it
there, they go arguing on the football game.
* Romantic affairs: Only a few persons will talk about this
but most students are victims. Many students are into
complicated relationships that have pushed their mind off
what should be their priority. If you are such, for the sake
of your scores, stay clear off all romantic relationships
and develop a passion for your studies. It is high time you
divorced anything that is not related to your choice of
course. One of the missing ingredients to the achievement
of your dreams is focus, no life ever grows great unless it
is focused, dedicated and disciplined.
Focus is all you need. It is high time you stopped walking
about the streets visiting people that won't add value to
your life. If there is anything that has kept you from
obtaining the grades and scores you dream of, it is lack of
focus.
Remember, if you chase two rabbits at a time, both will
escape. Your success is guaranteed if you can focus on
your dreams and goals today.
CHAPTER TEN
"Those who bring sunshine to the life of others cannot
keep it from themselves"
If you can teach others what you've learnt, you place
yourself in the shoes of the examiner. Teaching someone
what you know is a way of learning such that you cannot
forget. Top scorers have known this secret and they use it
even in your class. They tend to answer all the questions
the teacher may raise in the course of teaching. Because
of this, they have to read and study ahead of the class in
order to maintain the top position. The secret to good
understanding of any topic you flip open to read is in
asking yourself a question like this: How will I explain this
topic to Habibatu or John if either of them asked me to
teach them. Such question will make you read between
lines and your brain will fetch many examples from real
life activities so that you can be able to explain that topic
to the understanding of a third party. By the time you are
filled with different ways of explaining this, you can easily
download the knowledge to someone without you losing
it.
To teach is to learn twice.
Possessing the sense of teaching others will:
* Motivate you to study and research: since you must
prove your point and make Habibatu or John understand
this topic, you can only get your facts and back - ups by
reading.
* Make you stay awake at night so as to be ahead of
others. Before I sat for JAMB, I started teaching in tutorial
centers on the same subjects I would be sitting for. This
was possible because I studied with the aim of teaching
and it really gave my scores wings and me come out in
flying colours.
* Makes you a machinery of your own: since you already
teach these subjects, is there any need to have somebody
write for you? Of course No! The knowledge you have
acquired in the teaching process will help you tackle
almost any question.
Read with the intention of teaching a friend, it will give
you a great result. He who teaches others is indirectly
teaching himself. Find someone
who needs your help, and as you deliver them from their
fears, your fears will not be left behind. Remember, you
can get whatever you want if can help others get what
they want. A Japanese proverb says, "A piece of fragrance
clings to the hand that brings roses". This is the reason I
have put this book down so you can share with others this
secret that has lifted most students above their equals.
Start this practice by sending this book to all your friends
on Facebook, Whatsapp, etc
Read as though you will be teaching someone.
CHAPTER ELEVEN
If there is anyone who should be the best student for this
year, you are not an exception. You have what it takes.
Top scorers are those who have decided to break the
records beyond repair. Many people around you might
have written this examination over and over again without
success, your case will be different if you can dream of
excellence and work towards it.
I don't believe anything is impossible. Impossible is not a
fact, it is just an opinion. To a willing heart, there is no
impossibility. Top scorers have a vision to beat the
records of yesterday. They are not comfortable with their
equals being ahead of them. They go into their study room
and obtain speed to overtake. Many people who would
have made it in life were busy listening to those who said
it cannot be done. But I am sure that success is
determined by those who prove the impossible possible.
Set targets that will dazzle your colleagues when you
achieve it. Don't mind what people will say.
When I was in secondary school, precisely JSS3, I was
about sitting for JSCE (Junior School Certificate
Examination). I told my friends that I would like to make
A's in all my subjects. Everybody that heard it said it is not
possible, some others said I was too greedy about scores.
I didn't listen to them, after all that was my own dream
and goal, so if you are not comfortable with it, you can
dream yours. Dreaming is free after all. They weren't
surprised to see my name as one of the best three
students that made 13 A's in 13 subjects that we sat for
that year. The records are still there. If your dream is an
ordinary Pass or Credit, you run the risk of making F9 in
that subject. Let your target be to beat the records.
Those who make the best results in any of these
examinations are the students who see the examination
as a National competition. Imagine were you have been
chosen to represent your state in this examination. God
knows you will study day and night to be up and doing.
Different text books will pile up on your reading table.
Without advice, you will divorce home
movies, video games, social network chats etc. The
reason for this focus and preparation is because you will
be competing with best brains from different parts of the
country. With this awareness in you, you will do everything
in your power to emerge among the best. But many
students are ignorant of the truth that JAMB and WAEC
are national and international competitions respectively.
The reason many students fail JAMB or WAEC is because
they don't realize that they are competing with millions for
a space in the University. If you have this consciousness,
nobody will remind you of reading your books. While I was
studying with a friend of mine, Frank, I asked him for the
cyber cafe that he would like to check his result when the
results will be released. To my surprise, Frank told me that
his result will be a headline on NTA news. I was
challenged to my bone marrow. Frankly, Frank was a
catalyst. Dear reader, if your result should be a news
headline, what is the implication! Let this also challenge
and motivate you to fight for a place in the academic
records of your school, state, country and the world at
large. My dear, someone's name needs to be on the books
of records for outstanding performance, yours can be
placed there.
If you can apply this principle of reading to break the
records, your score will amaze you and everyone that
hears about it. I hope to tune my television and hear that
you are the best student for this year's examination.
SEE YOU AT THE TOP.
CHAPTER TWELVE
The common trait that runs in the vein of top scorers is
the ability to turn their obstacles into stepping stones. The
laws of success do not respect persons or status.
Whoever fulfills the criteria for success gets it. Success in
this examination is not a function of your skin colour,
physique, family background; rather it is a function of your
choice and determination to succeed. A determined
person can alter the course of history, his or her family
background not being a barrier. Statistics show that 95%
of students who emerge best in school examinations have
a challenging background. You might have been born into
a poor family and it's as if there is no hope for your
academic dreams. Don't cling to the regret of the past,
rather, get challenged by the situation of things and make
a firm resolve to rise to greatness against all odds. The
reason you must let go the regret of your background is
clearly explained by the word "BACKground". It is behind,
there is a foreground to contend for. If you cling so much
to the regret of your background, you may lose the
foreground. Your past is like a river flowing out of sight
but the future is an ocean filled with opportunities and
delight. Many folks are fond of blaming their family
background for their inability to make it in life, such
assumptions are wrong. Our background and
circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we
are responsible for who we become. Where you are
coming from is not the big issue, what matters is your
destination. Maybe, in your family tree, no one ever came
out as a university graduate; thus, let it challenge you to
break that jinx running in the background. I am convinced
that you wouldn't want to end up like everyone. Dare to
pay the price of greatness by turning your adversity to
opportunity. When I look back at my past, I know I would
not have amounted to anything if not for adversity; I was
forced to come up the hard way. History is littered with
stories of men and women who have risen from obscurity
to greatness as a result of sheer determination to
succeed.
Many students don't attempt writing university entrance
examination while some write with a very low interest to
doing well, because they are afraid of passing the
examination and their parents or guardian will tell them
that there is no money to fund their university education.
My dear, don't be afraid, believe in God's power for
provision. Once you pass the examination, money will
gravitate to you because money responds to project.
Ifeoma had the same experience. She graduated from
secondary school with a result that can be nicknamed
"perfect", but she didn't write JAMB UTME because there
was no one to sponsor her in school. She wanted to have
money in buck before going to school; each day turned
her hope of getting more money to a mirage. Before she
knew it, she had spent three years at home without
anything to show for it. Ifeoma decided to apply for the
examination after she met Onyinye, one of her class mates
who was now in 300 level. Her motivation was that
Onyinye's financial condition was worse than hers when
they left secondary school. Onyinye told her how she
wrote the examination and passed with a very high score,
as a result, she applied for a scholarship given by her
state of origin. As God would have it, she got it and it has
kept her going. Ifeoma was encouraged by the testimony
of her friend, and applied for JAMB UTME. She made a
very high score on release of the results and was offered
admission without hassle. Before the semester began, she
met her vice principal in secondary school who was keen
to know the state of her academic affairs. Ifeoma
narrated her story without a pinch missing. To her
surprise, the woman promised to pay her acceptance fee
and accommodation fee which she did. At the beginning
of the semester, Ifeoma applied for several scholarships
in the school system. God being so kind made her
successful with two big companies taking care of
everything she needed to finish her university education.
Dear, had Ifeoma stayed at home waiting for money to
present itself, she would have ended up a petty trader.
Dearly, register for this examination and if you have done
so, determine within to pass with a high score. Make a
move, remember the Israelites, manner fell down from
heaven but it did not fell into their mouth. Make a move
and money will present itself. This is the secret of people
who have risen from the point of "NOWHERE" to enviable
heights of greatness. If you wait for all things to be equal,
you may end up a failure, because all things cannot be
equal. The words of Bernard Shaw are wrapped up with
the secrets that have taken many from obscurity to
greatness. He said: "People always blame their
background andcircumstances for what they are, I don't
believe in circumstances, the people who get on in this
world are the people who get up and look for the
opportunity they want, and if they can't find them, they
make them".
CHAPTER THIRTEEN
.
"Every examination test for three things in general:
knowledge, speed and accuracy".
Scoring high in JAMB UTME is not only dependent on the
amount you know but the number of questions you are
able to shade correctly in 3 hours 30 minutes. JAMB
UTME is one of the national examinations that good time
management determines who will pass and who will fail.
Many students complain after writing the examination that
they were still on Use of English when the supervisor
announced 1 hour left. With this secret, you will not be on
the complaint counter.
Here is a system to write JAMB OR WAEC and have 30
minutes spilling over:
* Have a relaxed mind after you have cleared at the
entrance gate. It means you are qualified for the
examination.
* While the invigilators are getting the materials for the
examination, don't discuss with those around, rather a
simple prayer can give you more confidence and a relaxed
mind. Let your mind roam around the things you've read.
* Once you get the question paper, read the instruction
on the first page carefully.
* Shade your data into the answer sheet as neatly as
possible.
* Before going into the questions, take about six deep
breaths to allow a good inflow of oxygen and as well
energize your brain for the task at hand.
* Since you have studied the past questions, you should
have allotted time to different subjects with the order they
will be answered. Give the least time to the subject you
know best and larger portion of the time to the ones that
may be more difficult.
Here is the order I used when I sat JAMB UTME
Chemistry 35 minutes
Mathematics    40 minutes
Physics    45 minutes
Use of English 60 minutes
---------------------------
180 minutes
----------------------------
This left 30 minutes as a spill over for me and I did every
correction I needed, cross checked and was confident.
* Start with the questions you know both in WAEC and
JAMB so as to build self-confidence. This will let your
confidence rise such that the fear of failure will disappear
forever. Nervousness results to careless mistake in
examinations, but with your self-confidence raised to the
peak, nervousness will fall into the bottomless pit.
* Be sure to shade into the right portion of the answer
script bearing the subject you are tackling at the moment.
A very brilliant friend of mine failed JAMB UTME the first
time he sat the examination because he shaded different
subjects in entirely different columns from where they
were meant to be. When he realized his mistake, time was
already against him.
* This point is very important: have a total understanding
of each of the questions you read before you go on to
answer.
* The most important for JAMB CANDIDATES: if you
have practiced JAMB past questions, you will agree with
me that answers from first impression are not always the
correct answers. This is because the examiner puts
himself in your shoes, such that whatever that will come
to your mind first as an answer will be in the options,
notwithstanding, the real answer will also be there. JAMB
top scorers don't shade answers based on first
impression. Rather, they read and get a good
understanding of the question and as well solve out the
correct answers. This is the biggest secret of JAMB
examination. Remember, top scoring is not shading what
you think should be the answer but shading the correct
answers.
* Any question that tends to be tough, mark it with a big
asterisk and circle it. It will make it easier to be spotted
when you return to them.
NOTE: scoring high in this examination is not only
dependent on the amount you know but the number of
questions you are able to shade correctly in 3 hours 30
minutes.
On the average, JAMB expects that you answer each
question within 45 seconds. So any question exceeding
that is trying to steal your scores insteadof adding to it.
Mark such questions with asterisk.
* When you must have finished the ones you know, don't
forget to return to the ones marked with asterisk. By this
time, you will get a clearer understanding of the question
as you read it a third time.
* Since there is no deduction of marks for wrong
answers, attempt all questions. A shot in the dark is
always better than nothing.
* Your presentation matters a lot. No matter how
intelligent you are, you stand the risk of making low
grades if you cannot present your work in a legible
manner. If you are writing WASSCE, try to make your work
legible and as neat as possible.
* Submit your papers according to the supervisor's
instructions.
* Pack your materials and go home for a good rest.
If you are writing WASSCE or its equivalence, and you
have a paper the following day, don't discuss the ones
you've written because there is nothing you can change in
them again. Rather prepare for the papers ahead.
This system is what you need to top the list of JAMB AND
WAEC.
JAMB AND WAEC RECORDS ARE AT STAKE BECAUSE
ANYONE WHO APPLIES THE PRINCIPLE WRITTEN IN
THIS BOOK IS BOUND TO BREAK THEM BEYOND REPAIR.
CHAPTER FOURTEEN"They that know their God shall be strong and do exploit"
You cannot afford to carry out your daily dealings without
God. You will get into trouble when you try to handle your
life without him. But if you can make God your everything,
he will do all things for you. The Bible affirms
"All things worketh together for the good of them that love
God, who had been called according to His purpose". God
is the author of wisdom, knowledge and understanding,
such that calling Him into your plans brings the three
along. Often people want God's blessing but they don't
want Him, it doesn't work that way.
My dear, make time to commune with God in the course
of your preparation for this examination. Time spent in
communion with God is never lost. Everything will follow if
you place God first.
Consider the words of Corrie Ten Boom, he said, "The
devil smileswhen we plan, he laughs when we get too
busy. But he trembles when we pray". Dare to let God into
your life and plans. Here is a truth that cannot behidden,
"Failure will always accompany a man who has removed
Godfrom his plans. The wisest king revealed the secret of
his success when hesaid in Proverbs 3:5 - 6 "Trust in the
Lord with all your heart, lean not onyour own
understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He
will direct your paths".
Get into the habit of dealing with God about everything.
Seek Him even in your secret place and every public thing
you do will be stamped with His presence. If you fear God,
there is no need to fear anything else.
When God is on your side, victory is assured. If you have
studied with the last drop of your blood, yet you failed,
may be you are missing the God factor for success. The
thing I love about God is that He honours those who
honour Him. Just think of when God honours you in this
examination. Contact Him on your knees; he is all you
need to reach the top.
The following bible verses give you a reason to employ
God in your preparation:
Psalms 127:1 If the Lord does not build the house, the
work of the builders is useless; if the Lord does not
protect the city, it is useless for the sentries to stand
guard". (Good News Bible)
Psalms 32:8 "I the Lord will instruct and teach you in the
way you should go; I will counsel you with my eyes upon
you" (AMP Bible)
Proverbs 19:21 "Many plans are in a man's mind, but it is
the Lord's purpose for him that will stand". (AMP Bible)
Psalms 119:99 "I have better understanding and deeper
insight than all my teachers, because Your instructions are
my meditation".
Daniel 1: 17 - 20 "As for these four youths, God gave them
knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom, and Daniel
had understanding in all [kinds of] visions and dreams.
Now at the end of the time which the king had set for
bringing [all the young men in], the chief of the eunuchs
brought them before Nebuchadnezzar. And the king
conversed with them, and among them all none was
found like
Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; therefore they
were assigned to stand before the king. And in all matters
of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king
asked them, he found them ten times better than all the
[learned] magicians and enchanters who were in his whole
realm.
THE GREATEST GIFT YOU CAN GIVE TO A FRIEND IS
THAT WHICH WILL ADD VALUE TO HIS OR HER LIFE...
Think of friends who really need this book and forward to
them via email, Facebook, Bluetooth, Twitter, BBM, Flash
Share etc
It can be the beginning of their testimony
